This type of unit is used to heat up an entire building, mostly being used as a crucial part within a central heating system. These devices are installed to offer heat to an indoor area through a movement in fluid which is either air, steam or hot water. Any type of heating appliance that uses hot water or steam is considered a residential steam boiler/hot water boiler.
What Do They Run On?
The most common source of fuel for most modern furnaces within North America is natural gas. Other types of fuels include LPG, fuel oil and in extremely rare cases, wood or coal. Highly efficient heating systems can be as much as 98% efficient and run just fine without a chimney. On the other hand, more typical gas furnaces are only about 80% efficient. Gas and heat that are put to waste are most often vented through either the side or roof of the home.
